Michelle O’Neill, First Minister, Leas-Uachtarán (Vice-President) Shinn Féin and MLA for Mid Ulster, will Address the National Press Club.
Michelle O’Neill became the first nationalist and republican First Minister in February 2024 following the restoration of Stormont and Sinn Féin becoming the largest party in the north as a result of the 2022 Assembly Elections.
Born in Fermoy, Co. Cork, she grew up in Clonoe, County Tyrone.
Her political career began as a local councillor in 2005.
Michelle has represented Mid Ulster in the Assembly since 2007 and has served as Sinn Féin’s Agriculture Minister and Health Minister, before becoming Deputy First Minister in 2020 and then First Minister in 2024.
She became Vice President of Sinn Féin in 2018.
She got involved in politics to bring about change in our society, and was motivated by the hope and optimism of the Good Friday Agreement and the opportunity to build a better future.
Michelle was proud to vote for our peace agreement, which ended over 25 years of conflict and suffering on all sides of our community.
From then, she got heavily involved in politics and has worked ever since to build a better future.
Each and every day as First Minister for All, she strives to reach out; to serve everyone equally; and to consciously work for all.
Michelle is committed to building a better future for every single person who calls this island home. To create real, positive and lasting change which ultimately is constitutional change and bringing about a new and united Ireland.
