The Hon. Madeleine King MP, Minister for Resources and Minister for Northern Australia, will Address the National Press Club on “The bedrock of our security”.
In her National Press Club address, the Federal Minister for Resources and Minister for Northern Australia will discuss the revolution happening in our resources sector as the world looks to Australia to supply the critical minerals and rare earths needed not only for its economic security, but for strategic security. Minister King will also talk about the important role that Australia’s energy exports are playing in supporting our economy and a Future Made in Australia.
In an uncertain world, Australia is stepping up to its responsibility to provide the minerals our partners and allies need to meet a fast evolving security landscape.

Madeleine King was first sworn in as Federal Minister for Resources and Minister for Northern Australia on 1 June 2022 and was reappointed to the role after the re-election of the Albanese Labor Government in May 2025.
Minister King was first elected to Parliament in 2016, representing the seat of Brand, in the growing and dynamic southern suburbs of metropolitan Perth, Western Australia. The seat includes the City of Kwinana, where she was born, and the City of Rockingham, where she grew up, went to school, and now lives with her husband, Jamie.
WA’s industrial development was driven out of the Kwinana Industrial Area, where King’s father was among the first workers at the BP Oil Refinery.
Australia’s national defence, and the success of the AUKUS program, depends on the nation’s largest naval base, HMAS Stirling on Garden Island, in the City of Rockingham.
Minister King was promoted to the shadow ministry in 2018 and has served as Shadow Minister for Consumer Affairs and Small Business, Shadow Minister for Trade and Shadow Minister for Resources.
Minister King has a law degree from The University of Western Australia in Perth, was admitted as a solicitor in 1997 and continued in private legal practice as a finance and commercial lawyer, before moving to act as in-house counsel at UWA. King practiced general commercial and intellectual property on behalf of the University, including negotiations for significant research contracts, government funding arrangements, cooperative research centres and the foundation of research institutions.
Minister King went on to hold non-legal senior executive roles at The University of Western Australia and served as the inaugural Chief Operating Officer at the Perth USAsia Centre.
