The energy crisis is accelerating trends that started in response to climate change but are now unstoppable. Solar and wind dominate new electricity generation around the world – including Africa, the Asia-Pacific region and countries committed to nuclear – because they are cheaper and faster to meet demand. Electrification is tearing through transport and moving on to heating and much of industry. The plummeting cost of batteries is locking in these trends, as is soaring demand from AI data centres and cooling. Michael Liebreich is among the world’s most influential and sought-after thought leaders on the energy and net zero transition.
He is a prolific speaker and writer who made his name as the founder of – and now Senior Contributor to – BloombergNEF, the leading global research provider on policies, commodity markets and the disruptive technologies shaping the future of energy.
Michael is now Co-Managing Partner of EcoPragma Capital, CEO of Liebreich Associates, honorary fellow of the Energy Institute and visiting professor at Imperial College London. He also sits on numerous advisory boards.
Michael is also founder and co-host of the influential ‘Cleaning Up’ podcast and YouTube series, which began during the pandemic, and now has a large international following.
His former roles include member of the UK’s Taskforce on Energy Efficiency, member of the UK Board of Trade, advisor to the UN on Sustainable Energy for All, and member of the board of Transport for London.
Finally, Michael is also a former Olympian, having skied for Great Britain at the 1992 Albertville Olympics.
