Denita Wawn, CEO of Master Builders Australia, will Address the National Press Club on “Built to Last – Ending decades of corruption”.
This year marked 40 years since governments took the extraordinary step of deregistering the Builders Labourers Federation in response to widespread unlawful conduct. Yet history shows deregistration alone was not enough. The structures, behaviours and culture that drove industry dysfunction were never fully addressed, and many of the same challenges have simply re-emerged.
So, what is being done to ensure the next 40 years do not look like the last 40?
Drawing on decades of advocacy by Master Builders, findings from royal commissions and inquiries, and the experiences of businesses and workers across the country, Master Builders Australiaβs CEO Denita Wawn will outline why CFMEU Administration must be viewed as only the first step in industry reform and set out the policy, regulatory and governance changes required.
