The Power of Balance: Economic reform from the sensible centre

The National Press Club of Australia

Allegra Spender MP, Independent Member for Wentworth, will Address the National Press Club of Australia on "The Power of Balance: Economic reform from the sensible centre".

Allegra Spender is the Independent MP for Wentworth. Allegra has an economics degree from Cambridge University, is a member of the House Economics Committee and the Joint Migration Committee.

Allegra came to parliament as part of the so-called “Teal Wave” of Community Independents in May 2022. Her background in consulting, public sector delivery, renewable energy, and as the CEO of a significant Australian business is not in the usual road to parliament.

It has given her a unique perspective reflected in her agenda for evidence-based policy rather than politics.

Allegra has not only been a strong advocate for climate action, equality and integrity, but has pushed for rigorous cost benefit analysis, productivity and urgently needed tax reform. Allegra’s Tax Reform Green Paper will be released next month.

Allegra will make the case for the economic reform that “politics as usual” has failed to deliver. The economic reform required for Australia to retain its economic dynamism, and also its heart.
