Prof Fiona Wood AO, 2005 Australian of the Year, Consultant Plastic Surgeon at the Fiona Stanley Hospital and Perth Children's Hospital, Wounds Australia Board Director, will Address the National Press Club of Australia on "450,000 reasons to support urgent wound care reform".


2005 Australian of the Year and world leading burns surgeon Prof Fiona Wood AO will address the National Press Club of Australia on the urgent case for wound care reform.

Prof Wood will outline her vision for putting people at the heart of Australia’s wound care system.

450,000 Australians have a chronic wound each year, costing $6.6 billion to health and aged care budgets. This affects every part of their lives but many of these wounds are preventable.

Prof Wood will share what keeps her dedicated to wound care, reflecting on almost 20 years since being named Australian of the Year. She will also outline Wounds Australia’s plan for solving chronic wounds by investing in evidence based prevention, early intervention, treatment and education.

Professor Fiona Wood AO is one of Australia’s most respected surgeons and researchers, specialising in burn care and chronic wounds. She was 2005 Australian of the Year, recognising her pioneering 'spray-on skin' technique and support for victims of the Bali bombings. Prof Wood has been at the forefront of international wound care and research for over 30 years.
