Jeff Dimery, Managing Director and CEO of one of the country’s largest energy generators, retailers and developers, Alinta Energy, will address the National Press Club of Australia on "Straight talking and optimistic? Time for some truths about Australia’s energy transition".
Jeff Dimery is a senior figure in the Australian energy sector, with over 30 years' experience. He joined Alinta Energy as CEO in 2011 and became Managing Director and CEO in April 2017.
Raised by his single mother in a housing commission unit in Melbourne with five siblings, Jeff knows about insecurity; his mother worked multiple jobs, and he left school early. His childhood shaped him in many ways - not least of which is an understanding of the anxiety associated with the struggle to pay bills.
Jeff says the risks of a disorderly energy transition, particularly the impact on those who can least afford it, is what motivates him to be outspoken about the need for a pragmatic approach that balances affordability, reliability and sustainability.
He says it's time for a realistic discussion about the challenges facing the energy transition, and calls for a blended energy mix to be considered as part of the plan.
Jeff helped pioneer many of Australia’s earliest renewable energy developments, including several wind farms and a large-scale solar projects prior to joining Alinta Energy. To date, Alinta Energy has developed and is developing billions of dollars’ worth of renewable mega-projects around the country, including the Oven Mountain Pumped Hydro Storage Project, the Spinifex Offshore Wind Project, the Chichester Solar Farm, big batteries in Newman and Wagerup, and the Yandin Wind Farm.
Jeff was a founding member of Australia’s Clean Energy Council, and previously served on the boards of The Renewable Energy Generators of Australia, Australian Energy Council (including as both Chair and Deputy Chair), and the Australian Wind Energy Association.
