Senator the Hon Katy Gallagher is the Federal Minister for Finance, Women and the Public Service.
Senator Gallagher entered politics in 2001 in a bid to boost women’s representation in the ACT Legislative Assembly. Since then, she has dedicated her career to delivering progressive and future-focused policies, with a particular focus on making sure that government works for women.
Holding the portfolios of Finance, Women and the Public Service in the Albanese Government – Australia’s first majority women Government – Senator Gallagher has worked with her colleagues to ensure that women are at the centre of government decision making.
From expanding paid parental leave and making child care cheaper, to establishing the Women’s Economic Equality Taskforce, making gender equality an object of the Fair Work Act, expanding the Parenting Payment (Single), introducing paid family and domestic violence leave and putting a gender lens on Labor’s tax reforms – the Albanese Government is steadfast in its commitment to work for and with women.
Ahead of International Women’s Day, the Minister will deliver the promised national strategy for gender equality that looks toward a future where Australia can fulfil its potential to lead the world on gender equality.
