Excellence in Health Journalism Awards: Applications Open
Applications for the Excellence in Health Journalism Awards are open.
Their journalism will have broadened community understanding of health issues and/or events and explained or examined related policies, technologies, trends and/or personnel in their chosen medium.
The overall winning journalist will receive a cash prize of $15,000 and have their name inscribed on the honour board permanently displayed at the National Press Club of Australia.
The Awards categories are:
- Cancer: Includes stories reporting on policy, services, affordability, research, innovation, prevention, oncology and clinical trials
- Health Policy, Health Economics and Business: Includes Medicare, private health, hospital, PBS, Pharmacy and allied health; and
- Health Innovation: Includes medical research, new technologies, data analytics to improve health care and genomic profiling
Each category winner will receive a cash prize of $1,000.

Awards submissions are to be lodged by 11:59pm Thursday 24 September 2026.
Applications must be submitted at www.npc.org.au under the Rare Cancers Australia and Omico Excellence in Health Journalism Awards Website Submission Form.
N.B. All applicants will receive email confirmation that their submission has been received. Any applicant who does not receive confirmation should contact the awards coordinator at the National Press Club.
