The National Press Club of Australia in partnership with the National Australia Bank are proud to launch the NAB Excellence in Student Journalism Awards. The awards are also being supported by the Journalism Education Association (JEA).

The objectives of these Awards are to:
*Recognise and promote excellence among students of journalism in Australia
*Provide a platform for students of journalism in Australia to be recognised among their peers, communities, the corporate world and by media organisations.
“These awards are an exciting initiative” National Press Club President Ken Randall said. “We believe there is a great deal of talent among student journalists and through this program we hope to encourage them and to provide opportunities for recognition. The Canberra Journalism Education Experience will provide key networking opportunities among possible future employers as well. We believe that nurturing young talent is good for the business of journalism”.
Students in their final year of undergraduate Journalism Studies or post graduate studies at institutions recognised by the Journalism Education Association will be eligible to enter.
Applicants are invited to a submission in any medium on any of the following categories.
CATEGORY ONE - Prize $500, certificate of recognition
Matters of Contemporary Australian Politics or Public Policy or Indigenous Issues
CATEGORY TWO - Prize $500, certificate of recognition
Global Warming or related environmental issues
CATEGORY THREE - Prize $500, certificate of recognition
Australian Sport or International Sport with an Australian participation
CATEGORY FOUR - Prize $500, certificate of recognition
Health Policy, Health Innovation or Science issues
CATEGORY FIVE - Prize $500, certificate of recognition
Australian Business, Banking or Infrastructure issues
STUDENT JOURNALIST OF THE YEAR AWARD
Awarded to the applicant deemed most outstanding from each of the category winners. Category winners received $500 and the overall winner an additional $1000. All winners will participate in the Canberra Parliamentary Journalism Education Experience.
CANBERRA PARLIAMENTARY AND JOURNALISM EDUCATION EXPERIENCE.
This unique program will provide the students with unequaled Parliamentary and Journalism experience and access in Canberra.
The itinerary will be based on visitations to the National Australia Bank Address, meetings and briefings with National Press Club of Australia Board members, meetings with a Minister and/or a Shadow Minister, Media Adviser, attendance at Parliamentary question time and a meeting with an Industry lobbyist.
The National Press Club and National Australia Bank welcome the support of the Journalism Education Association, who co ordinate the “Ossies” Journalism Awards, and hope their members will encourage their students to participate. The timing of the Awards with the launch in June and announcement in September has been selected to work around the semester 2 commitments of students. Associate Professor Stephen Tanner of the JEA and Head of the school of journalism and creative writing at Wollongong University is on the panel of judges.
